Four Marine AV-8B Harrier aircraft prepare for launch against targets on Falaga Island, a returning Harrier hovers for a landing. The sorties from USS Nassau two days prior to the ground war constituted the first time in U.S. military history that Marine Harriers launched into combat from a Navy warship. Previously, Harriers involved in Gulf combat launched from shore-based installations.
