Two days before the ground war commenced, these Marines stood bow watch on the USS Gunston Hall as she steamed into the Northern Gulf as part of a massive amphibious deception operation. The landing was fake, but the mines were real, as USS Tripoli and USS Princeton found out. Casualties on the Princeton included the bow watchers.
