Haun often sketched from the seat of a D8 Caterpillar or other type of tractor, which provided him a good perch to view the men's activities while offering some protection against the harsh temperatures and strong wind. In this sketch, Haun shows us the scene from the D8's rearview or sideview mirror. Seabee "Smitty" is making repairs to another D8. A man standing by the fire attends to radio communications.
