Harper’s Weekly, July 7, 1883. Chief Nane, one of Geronimo’s lieutenants, enters the camp of General George Crooke (1829-1890). Crooke was a key player in the Indian Wars, successfully fighting the Snake, Yavapai, Sioux and Apache. Geronimo, who surrendered and escaped several times, was permanently captured on December 4, 1886. He died in 1909 at Fort Sill Oklahoma, after twenty-three years of captivity
