HRS-1 helicopters cruised at 80 miles per hour as they rushed to deliver and extract Marines in remote areas of Korea. Although equipped with 8 seats, the aircraft could carry only 6 plus the crew of 2, and that number was reduced to 4 if they were fully combat-loaded, like the Marine in the foreground of this work who also carries a bipod for a mortar. The Marine Corps requested 60 of the transport helicopters in its first order.
