Communications between Marines on the ground and their transport to and from remote areas was critical. In this painting, one Marine carries a man-portable radio unit, while another calls the HRS-1 pilot to their location. The third Marine is armed with a standard-issue M-1 carbine and a Model 1911A1 pistol, the same weapons Marines carried during World War II.
