On 20 Feb 1945, Capt Robert Dunlap, led his company toward the steep cliffs of Iwo Jima where the Japanese were hailing down artillery, mortar and machine gun rounds. The fire was so intense, Dunlap held his men, crawling alone 200 yards from the front lines until he spotted the enemy gun positions. For two days and nights, he worked tirelessly under constant fire, skillfully directing a bombardment against the entrenched enemy positions, resulting in the decisive defeat of the Japanese forces in that sector.
