MAJ KENNETH D. BAILEY, USMC 12 – 13 Sept 1942 • Gaudalcanal

On 12 – 13 September 1942, during the battle for Henderson Field, Maj Kenneth Bailey’s company was positioned between the main line and coveted airport. When the Japanese penetrated a gap in the line, the fearless major repulsed the threat, leading his Raiders and engaging in face-to-face combat. Despite serious head wounds, Bailey fought alongside his outnumbered company for 10 hours until they’d defeated the huge enemy force.
