Commissioned in October 1917, USS Allen (DD-66) spent WWI serving on escort duty for convoys off Queenstown, Ireland. The ship continued to serve in the 1920s and 1930s and at the start of World War II was anchored at the east end of Ford Island, Pearl Harbor, on 4 December 1941. It saw duty as an escort and training ship in the Hawaiian Islands before serving on the west coast of the U.S. during World War II. When decommissioned in October 1945, it was the longest serving destroyer in the United States fleet. Courtesy of Navy Art Collection, Naval History and Heritage Command
