Maj Dyer captured this image of a Marine dog handler and his scout dog on point during a patrol. Dyer noted that “handlers became attached to their animals. One extended his tour to remain with his dog since he knew it would be destroyed when he rotated home.” The artist made note on the drawing about the numbers of Marines, including their dogs, killed in action (KIA) and wounded in action (WIA).
