John Groth was a civilian war artist in World War II and Korea. He volunteered to serve as a combat artist in Vietnam. In February 1967, working out of I Corps, Groth did a series of quick sketches of patrolling Marines checking identity cards. Two of the sketches show military working dogs in action.
