Private First Class Chesty XIV receives his eagle, globe, and anchor pin at a ceremony held at Marine Barracks Washington, D.C., on 8 April 2013. The beloved mascot retired as a sergeant after five years of service.
Chesty XIV goes nose-to-nose for the first time with his successor, Chesty XV, in March 2018. Chesty XV came aboard at 10 weeks old and reached the rank of lance corporal. He was reportedly such a handful that he had to be given an official pardon at his retirement ceremony in 2022.
The current mascot is Chesty XVI, who made corporal in January 2025. The next month he made a guest appearance at the 149th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show at Madison Square Garden to help celebrate the 250th birthday of the Marine Corps. He is a regular attendee at the summer Evening Parades at Marine Barracks Washington as shown here with handler Lance Corporal Ashley Melendressaucedo.
