Battles, USMCR Acquisition Number: 2007.53.42 Medium: Oil on Board Captain Weiss is on the radio, coordinating a fight against insurgents on an urban battlefield and calling in fire coordinates during Operation Iraqi Freedom in late 2006. Communications and control were key to effective combat in the irregular warfare in which Marines were engaged in the Middle East. In May 2006, the duly elected Iraqi government took office, while sectarian violence increased markedly throughout the country. Fighting was intense, close-up, and personal.
