Original work: Drawing
Original size: 11 by 16 inches

At the end of World War II, due to divided political sentiments in Korea, the Allies had divided the country along the 38th parallel, with pro-Communist above and pro-western below. On June 25, 1950, Communist forces crossed the parallel, starting the Korean War. While pro-western forces fought under the United Nations flag, the United States Navy was a major presence in the sea forces, with Navy jets flying off aircraft carriers proving the value of carrier-based aviation.
